Shints ETP Garment Inaugurates 200 Million Birr Worth of Recreational Facilities, Daycare
The South Korean global enterprise, Shints ETP Garment PLC, has inaugurated a recreational facility and daycare center for 200 million birr.
The recreational facility, which includes a tennis court, basketball court, soccer field, gym, and daycare center, is expected to significantly enhance workers’ satisfaction and productivity in the workplace.
“I feel proud when I see the workers at Bole Lemi Industrial Park growing with Shints. The daycare provides peace of mind and convenience for parents, while the recreational facility offers opportunities to boost productivity,” said Jung Kang, South Korea’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, during the inauguration ceremony.
Shints currently provides dormitory services for 5,500 workers at its manufacturing facility in Bole Lemi Industrial Park. The company also offers primary education services for workers’ families, with plans to introduce secondary education next year while expanding dormitory capacity to accommodate 11,000 workers, according to the company’s President and Owner, Cha Min Hon.
“Shints' expansion project is a testament to the growing confidence of investors in Ethiopia. The implementation of the Special Economic Proclamation will further boost investor engagement by providing a streamlined policy environment for enhanced operations,” said the Ethiopian Investment Commission Deputy Commissioner, Dagato Kumbi.
The CEO of the Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC), Feseha Yetagsu, praised Shints ETP as an anchor investor who has demonstrated resilience during challenging times.
“Building on the long-standing relationship between Ethiopia and South Korea, Shints is not only an anchor investor in Bole Lemi Industrial Park but also an all-weather investor who stood by Ethiopia during its internal challenges,” he said.
The CEO also commended Shints' commitment to worker welfare.
“The expansion of dormitory, daycare, and recreational facilities is a testament to Shints' care for its employees. We will continue to support you through every step of your planned expansion projects,” he added.
The company plans to expand its manufacturing operations by developing an eight-hectare site within Bole Lemi Industrial Park. Once the expansion project is completed, Shints' current workforce of 8,000 employees is expected to quadruple.
