Discussions Held with Japanese Investors Planning to Invest in Various Sectors of the Ethiopian Economy
A significant discussion was held with Japanese investors interested in investing across different sectors of the Ethiopian economy at the Ethiopian Embassy in Tokyo.
The event, aimed at increasing Japanese investors' participation in Ethiopia’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Free Trade Zones, involved investors from sectors such as trade and logistics, agricultural drone manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, robotics technology, and chemical manufacturing.
The discussion was chaired by Ethiopian Ambassador to Japan, Daba Debele, and the CEO of the Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC), Dr. Fiseha Yitagesu.
Ambassador Daba provided in-depth responses and explanations to questions raised regarding Ethiopia’s ongoing reform agendas, tax and customs regulations, human resource and raw material supply, market access, and other key investment-related issues.
The Ambassador reassured the investors about the embassy’s continued support in ensuring the success and monitoring of Japanese investments in Ethiopia. This will be done through collaboration with various stakeholders, he said.
Dr. Fiseha Yitagesu emphasized that the investment relationship between Ethiopia and Japan should continue to grow, reflecting the long-standing and stable ties between the two nations.
He cited two major Japanese companies currently operating in IPDC-administered SEZs—Toyo Solar and Toppan Gravity—as examples of the favorable investment services provided by the corporation.
Dr. Fiseha further highlighted that attracting more Japanese direct investments and making them more effective in Ethiopia will be a priority for the IPDC in the coming years.
Currently, over 22 companies owned by Japanese and joint ventures are operating in Ethiopia. These companies have a registered capital exceeding 450 million USD and have created over 3,000 jobs, playing a vital role in the development of Ethiopia’s economy.
