Ongoing Macroeconomic Reform Will Boost Participation of Bangladesh Investors in Ethiopia’s SEZs – Feseha Yetagesu (PhD)
Ethiopia’s macroeconomic reforms are set to create a favorable environment that will increase the participation of Bangladesh investors in Ethiopia’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs), says the CEO of the Industrial Park Development Corporation (IPDC), Feseha Yetagesu (PhD).
This statement was made during a discussion aimed at enhancing the involvement of Bangladeshi investors in Ethiopia’s SEZs, specifically focusing on sectors like apparel, garment, and pharmaceuticals.
The CEO held the discussion with Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sikder Bodiruzzaman, at the embassy premises yesterday.
During the discussion, the CEO emphasized that Bangladesh has made significant strides in the apparel, garment, and pharmaceutical sectors. However, he noted that while there are two Bangladeshi investors engaged in the apparel and garment sector in the Mekelle SEZ, their participation does not fully reflect the strength of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. He stressed the importance of working to strengthen economic ties further.
"Ethiopia’s ongoing macroeconomic reforms provide an ideal opportunity to boost Bangladesh’s participation in Ethiopia’s SEZs, as these zones offer not only world-class infrastructure but also a conducive policy environment," said Feseha Yetagesu.
The CEO also highlighted the availability of a young workforce, abundant resources, and Ethiopia’s strategic location as a gateway to Africa’s markets, as well as its proximity to Europe and the Middle East.
Ambassador Sikder Bodiruzzaman expressed his commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and emphasized that business diplomacy is a key pillar in building diplomatic relations between countries.
He also outlined Bangladesh's notable achievements in the apparel, garment, pharmaceutical, and medicine sectors, expressing his country's readiness to collaborate with IPDC.
Additionally, Ambassador Sikder suggested that, beyond garments and apparel, there should be a forum dedicated to broadening investors' understanding of Ethiopia's potential in the pharmaceutical sector.
