Hong-Kong textile chain to take over eight sheds in Bahir Dar industrial Park


Expected to employ 4,000 fresh graduates

The Bahir Dar Industrial Park is set to integrate new and upcoming textile graduates from the Bahir Dar University in its manufacturing chains as textile and garment companies’ edges closer to commence operations inside the park’s eight factory sheds.

The newly revealed plan mainly envisaged creating linkage among Bahir Dar University Fashion and Design school graduates with Hop Lun, a Hong Kong-based textile and garment company which is expected start production in less than one month period inside the park, according to the park’s management team.

Deputy CEO of Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC), Amare Asgedom, told The Reporter that the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) and Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) recently signed an agreement with the Hong Kong-based company to handover eight factory sheds to the transnational textile and garment manufacturing firm.

According to Amare, Hop Lun, which is set to produce and export its textile products to the international market will take over the existing eight shades soon and start training programs for it’s soon to be employees in the coming weeks and many of whom are said to be graduates of the school.

Contracted by the Chinese firm, China Construction Engineering Company (CCEC), the new park is currently said to be on its final stage with only the installation of telecom cables and other software appliances remain work to be done.

The first phase of the park project has been constructed on 75 hectares of land with a construction cost of close to 60 million USD.

The Bahir Dar city administration had also recently expressed its plan to provide additional 75 hectares of land for the expansion of the park.

The Hong Kong-based company, which is set to start its imminent manufacturing operations on day-shift work hours inside the park as early as next month, is expected to create in excess of 4,000 job opportunities.

According to Amare, additional 4,000 job opportunities will also be added when the planned dormitory and full warehouse services start.

Amare, noting that the remaining installation of electric power and telephone-cables will be conducted in less than one month, stressed that “there will not be that much challenge in-terms of infrastructure like the other industrial parks.”

The Ethiopian government is currently discussing with the Hong Kong-based company to directly integrate Bahir Dar University Fashion Department, which would enable new and upcoming graduates from the university to get employment opportunities alongside few foreign experts, it was indicated.

According to the park’s deputy director, Ethiopian professionals will mainly obtain technical, managerial and related supervisory roles as part of the integration initiative between the Bahir Dar University and the Bahir Dar Industrial Park.

Meanwhile, the Bahir Dar industrial park in partnership with IPDC and the CCECC also last week donated school kits to more than 250 students in area, whose families were relocated due to the industrial park’s construction project, worth 300,000 birr inside the park’s compound in time for the start of the school year.

 Ethiopia Plans to Build Four Industrial Parks


Addis Ababa, August 9, 2019 (FBC) –Ethiopia plans to build four industrial parks this budget year, according to Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC).

The Corporation, together with scholars and stakeholders, is reviewing last year’s performance of industrial parks in Ethiopia.

The industrial parks exported products worth $110 million to different countries last Ethiopian budget year, up by 35% compared to the previous year.

They also created employment opportunities for 50,000 people.

However, the Corporation had some difficulties to achieve its target for the budget year due to instability in some parts of the country, it was indicated.

According to the Corporation, three industrial parks were inaugurated and entered into production last Ethiopian budget year, which ended July 7.

 Awareness creation program was held at Hilton International Hotel 


August 9, 2019 a one-day awareness creation program was organized by Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) for Elders, Religious leaders, key individual, representatives of different association, Students and the like at Hilton International Hotel.

The main goal of the meeting was to create awareness on the development and administration of industrial parks and create belongingness of the projects among the community.

A presentation on the current status of Industrial park development and a cascaded plan for the next five years was briefly explained by   Ms. Lelise Neme CEO Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC). Then the floor opened for discussion and participants give suggestion and raised questions. Finally, most of the suggestion was taken as input, explanation, and response for questions was given by IPDC Management and reach in censuses to work together.

 Stakeholders meeting held at Hiliton International Hotel


August 8, 2019, Industrial Parks Development Corporation had a meeting with key Stakeholders at Hilton International Hotel. The discussion was opened with a welcoming remark by Ms. Lelise Neme CEO Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC). Then presentation on Industrial Parks Development in Ethiopia by Ato Shiferaw Solomon DCEO of IPDC, IPDC’S 2012 (2019/20) annual Plan by Ato Amare Asgedom DCEO of IPDC and Especial Jobs initiative by GIZ was presented.

The main goal of the meeting was to reach in censuses bring about 2012 E.C budget year plan in developing and administering industrial parks in different parts of the country and activities of stakeholders in the budget year 2012 E.C.

Then the floor opened for discussion and participants give suggestion and raised questions. Finally, most of the suggestion was taken as input, explanation, and response for questions was given by IPDC Management and reach in censuses to work together in order to carry out common goals.

 Companies from Kunshan province ready to built an industrial park in Dire Dawa


Dire Dawa, July, 2019, business delegation led by Mayor of kunshan province Mr.Zu Yu Dong visited Dire Dawa city and the Mayor said that companies are ready to built a private textile Industrial Park with a half million dollar in Dire Dawa, the construction of the industry park will be completed within two years and create a job opportunity for many people.

It is a good opportunity to promote Dire Dawa city, attract FDI, create jobs, transfer knowledge and technology and the city administration is ready by any means to support the companies to build the Industry Park, said with the rank of Deputy Mayer of Dire Dawa city administration and Director of Trade, industry and investment bureau.

Hong Kong-Based Hop Lun Takes over Entire Factory Sheds at Bahir Dar Industrial Park


Understanding (MoU) with the Ethiopia Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) to take over the entire factory sheds at Bahir Dar industrial park.

Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation, Lelise Neme, and head of the Amhara regional state industry and investment bureau with the rank of Deputy Chief Administrator, Melaku Alebel, oversaw the signing of the MoU in Bahir Dar.

Melaku on the occasion said that the industrial park, which rested on 75 hectares of land, is currently 93.7 percent complete. It will be readied for service within a month. The industrial park has 8 sheds for Apparel and Garment manufacturing.

Lelise for her part said that the Bahir Dar industrial park is one of the seven parks that will enter into production soon.

The Bahir Dar industrial park, which is dedicated to Apparel and Garment manufacturing, is expected to create 13,000 jobs when it starts production with full capacity. In the first phase, it will create jobs for 6,000 people.

Construction of the second and third phases of the Bahir Dar industrial park will be carried out on 2,000 hectares of land, it was noted.
